Overview
The Barber of Seville
Presented by Opera Santa Barbara
THIS PERFORMANCE WILL PROCEED AS PLANNED!
This beautifully staged production of Rossini's comic masterpiece features vocal pyrotechnics and movie-star looks supplied by a stunning cast of Opera Santa Barbara newcomers. Rosina is Mexican mezzo-soprano Cassandra Zoe Velasco, an alumna of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artists Program at LA Opera, who regularly appears at the Metropolitan Opera. Her beloved Lindoro is tenor Andrew Bidlack, an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, whom Opera News named as one of their "top 25 brilliant young artists" in 2015. In the title role of Figaro, Opera Santa Barbara welcomes the dashing Alexander Elliott, fresh from debuts with the Dallas Opera, Opera Omaha and the Pittsburg Symphony. They also look forward to the Opera Santa Barbara debut of Peter Strummer, acclaimed specialist of the Italian buffo repertoire, as Figaro's nemesis, Dr. Bartolo. In charge of the comedic shenanigans is Pacific Opera Project's Artistic Director Josh Shaw.
