Part of the Movies that Matter with Hal Conklin Film Series
In partnership with Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara

Three brilliant African-American women at NASA -- Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) -- serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

Join former Santa Barbara mayor and film critic Hal Conklin for a selection of great stories that touch the soul and draw out the best in humanity. These stories teach about forgiveness, loving others, and loving ourselves, and provide a renewed enthusiasm for living life with compassion and grace. Drawn from the syndicated film series “Cinema In Focus,” these presentations will blend together great film with audience conversations and Q&A.
