Legendary conductor Georg Solti studied with composers Béla Bartók and Erno von Dohnányi. In 1953, Mr. Solti hired Dohnányi’s grandson, Christoph, to work with him at the opera house in Frankfurt , Germany. Christoph von Dohnányi rose to international preeminence as music director of the Cleveland Orchestra for nearly 20 years, and became honorary conductor for life of London’s Philharmonia Orchestra. He has conducted all of the world’s major orchestras and at the most important opera houses. His recordings continue to be benchmarks of the Romantic symphonic repertoire. Mr. von Dohnányi will lead Brahms’ majestic second symphony, the perfect way to end an incredible summer of music.
