Part of the Elmer Bernstein Memorial Film Series

Abner Hale, a rigid and humorless New England missionary, marries the beautiful Jerusha Bromley and takes her to the exotic island kingdom of Hawaii, intent on converting the natives. But the clash between the two cultures is too great, and instead of cultural understanding there comes tragedy.

Nominated for 7 Academy Awards and winner of two Golden Globes, Hawaii is a distillation of James Michener’s epic eponymous novel that features Julie Andrews, Richard Harris, and Gene Hackman—all in celebrated roles.

Don’t miss your chance to see Hawaii on the big screen!

The Elmer Bernstein Memorial Film Series is designed to highlight films that are important beyond their cinematic tradition for their showcasing of great cinematic scores. Guest curator Jon Burlingame will host a talk with audience Q&A before the film.

About the Elmer Bernstein Memorial Film Series
