Visual Directors: Michael Patterson and Candace Reckinger
By joining the music of the USC Thornton Symphony with the animation of 11 different artists from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Pictures at an Exhibition will be a multimedia event like you’ve never seen or heard before.
World-class conductor Carl St.Clair will lead the USC Thornton Symphony through pieces by Glinka, Tchaikovsky, and finally Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, thus bringing some of the finest pieces in classical music to California’s Central Coast.
Both a symphonic event and a multimedia presentation, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition will be accompanied by a 4K projection of original animation of each movement that was commissioned by Michael Tilson Thomas for the 2011 opening of the New World Symphony’s new venue in Miami, Florida. Additionally, a new technology called Muséik will allow a musician to sit in the orchestra and, as he or she follows the conductor, the frame rate on the video will change—thereby allowing the video to follow the music rather than the other way around, as has historically been the case.
Don’t miss your chance to see this impressive and rare multimedia event in The Granada Theatre!
