Based on the true story of a young professor of an all-black college in 1935 Marshall, Texas, we are able to experience history as first-hand observers of a little-known event that was foundational to the civil rights movement.
Please join former Santa Barbara Mayor and film critic Hal Conklin and special guest from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee Sojourner Kincaid Rolle, Poet Laureate, City of Santa Barbara before the film for audience conversation and Q&A. Ms. Rolle has invited MLK First Place Essay Winners Kundai Chikowero-8th grade and Michelle Qin-9th Grade to read their winning pieces at the Granada Theater before the film. The essays will be "The Dream Lingers On" and "Diversity Through Our Differences" respectively.
