Kabaretti Conducts Mozart & Mahler

Saturday, November 16, 2019, 8:00pm
Sunday, November 17, 2019, 3:00pm

Presented by Santa Barbara Symphony

The Symphony is thrilled to welcome American Soprano Anya Matanovič to the stage this concert weekend.* Anya made her professional opera debut as Mimì in the Los Angeles commercial engagement of Baz Luhrmann’s Tony Award-winning production of La bohème and joins the Santa Barbara Symphony with her signature thrilling vocal color for a performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s joyous and virtuosic religious motet Exsultate Jubilate and Mahler's 4th Symphony. The recipient of several prestigious honors, including a Pulitzer Prize, contemporary composer Julia Wolfe draws inspiration from folk, classical, and rock genres. Julia Wolfe composed Fuel for Strings in 2007 as a joint project with filmmaker Bill Morrison and is the result of a commission from the European string orchestra Ensemble Resonanz. Gustav Mahler’s wondrous Symphony No. 4 is the most accessible of his works. Warm and lyrical, it combines deliberate simplicity with a wealth of invention.

*The Symphony was notified on November 7, 2019, that Lana Kos would be unable to perform as previously scheduled due to illness.

Subscription packages are available through the Santa Barbara Symphony website or by calling (805) 898-9386.
